Full disclosure: I am a major fan of all things horror. And, yes, it may have a little something to do with watching ‘Are You Afraid of the Dark?’ way before I should have. However, I’m happy to admit that since then, my love for horror movies, urban legends, and even those trashy ‘Scary Things Caught On Camera’ YouTube videos have only grown stronger. So, as you can guess, I love celebrating Halloween! And, sure, dressing up in cute costumes is always fun. But hosting a horror movie night with snacks, a few friends, and Halloween alcoholic drinks is how I love to spend the scariest night of the year.
If you share a love for a fright night in like me, you’re definitely thinking about how to spook up your Halloween drinks this year. Fear not. With the help of Drinkable Gifts, you’ll get everyone into the ‘spirit’ with our scary-good drink ideas! Read below as we talk witches and whiskey, and getting a little tipsy!
The History of Halloween and Spirits
Many will be surprised to know that alcohol has been a part of Halloween for centuries. Back in the 14th century, Alchemists stumbled across alcohol while trying to turn metal into gold. Through more experimentation, they also discovered how to distill, and were able to turn alcohol into a vapor/steam. This type of alcohol was then given the name ‘spirit.’
Halloween was initially a Pagan festival that marked the end of summer and a time when the dead could walk on Earth. Pagans would leave food and drinks (spirits) out on their doorsteps to keep these ghosts happy, eventually leading to the tradition of trick-or-treating many years later.
Today, instead of leaving food and drink on the doorstep, kids dressed up in costumes come to receive candy and other sweet treats. While the adults choose to celebrate with boo!-ze. For your friends who can’t visit you for Halloween fun in person, you can celebrate with them in spirit! By sending them creative cocktail gifts to help them make a few spooky beverages for their own party!

Vampire’s Kiss Cocktail
I should warn you against kissing vampires because Bella Swan’s journey was anything but easy. But we’ll make this delicious drink the exception. This blood-red, berry-flavored vodka martini looks sinister but is just as sweet as its red sugar rim. With an added chunk of dry ice, this cocktail bubbles and boils all night long.
Pumpkin Martini
Pumpkins are unavoidable during Halloween, so we might as well make the most of them! Don’t throw your pumpkin carvings away. Instead, create something truly magical with this Pumpkin Martini recipe. This creamy and crunchy drink is sure to impress your friends at your next spooky get-together.
Corpse Reviver
As I said, no one will return from the dead, but the Corpse Reviver will surely lift anyone’s spirits! A classic gin sour all the way from the 1930s with a zingy taste and licorice finish, this drink will cast its lemon-flavored spell over your Halloween guests.
Zombie Cocktail
If you’re looking to whip up a Halloween drink that’s a little more potent, the Zombie Cocktail is the one for you. Made from 3 different fruit juices, 2 fruit syrups, and 4 types of rum (yes, I said 4), this Halloween drink packs a punch! While borderline unnecessary, the Zombie Cocktail is scary good! Try it out for yourself.
Bloody Mary
It’s completely fair to give this drink a round of applause. The monarch of Halloween drinks and, most probably, alcoholic drinks overall – the Bloody Mary was invented waaaay back in the 1920s. Since then, this simple combination of vodka and tomato juice has become one of the most popular drinks in the world, and it’s right on theme for Halloween!

The Witch’s Brew Punch Recipe
What You’ll Need:
- 48 oz oz pineapple juice
- 2 cans of peach nectar
- 1L bottle of orange juice
- 2L bottle of lime soda carbonated and chilled
- 1 bottle vodka
- 1 bottle rum
- dry ice
- 1 bag of gummy worms
- 4-10 drops of green or black food coloring
- 1 large plastic cauldron
- 1 large punch bowl
How to Make the Witch’s Brew
- Using gloves or tongs, place a block of dry ice at the bottom of the cauldron.
- Fill the cauldron with just enough water to cover the dry ice. This will cause the cauldron to appear as though it is magically smoking.
- Carefully pour the juices, nectar, and food coloring into your punch bowl. Then, slowly add the vodka, rum, and lemon-lime soda and stir gently until well-blended.
- Add the gummy worms right at the end and place the punch bowl inside the cauldron.
- Serve the Witch’s Brew!
Top Tip: Remember that dry ice is hazardous, so it’s best to keep it away from kids, pets, and tipsy guests!
